Worthing Day Trip Ideas
If you are planning a day trip to Worthing, the good news is that it is an easy town to enjoy without rushing. The seafront, pier, shops, cafes, theatres and town centre are all close enough to make a relaxed day out feel simple.
Jacob's Bagels is based at 9 Bath Place, close to Worthing town centre, so we are a useful stop for breakfast, lunch, coffee or something sweet before you head towards the beach, pier or promenade.
Start in Worthing town centre
Worthing town centre is flat, walkable and close to the seafront. You can arrive by train, bus, car or bike, then explore the town without needing a complicated plan.
If you are coming by train, Worthing Station is the best station for the town centre. From there, it is roughly a 15-minute walk into the centre and about 20 minutes to Worthing Pier.
If you are coming by bus, Worthing is served by local operators including Stagecoach, Compass, Metrobus and Brighton & Hove Buses. There are also coach stops in the wider Worthing area, including Marine Parade and West Worthing.
A simple Worthing day trip route
For an easy day out, this is a good route:
- Arrive in Worthing by train, bus or car.
- Start with breakfast, coffee or a filled bagel in town.
- Walk down towards the seafront and Worthing Pier.
- Spend time on the promenade, beach or pier.
- Browse independent shops and local places around the town centre.
- Finish with food, coffee, theatre, cinema or a slow walk back along the seafront.
Walk the pier and promenade
Worthing Pier is one of the town's best-known landmarks. It gives you sea views, a classic seaside feel, the Pavilion Theatre at the landward end, and plenty of space for a slow wander.
The promenade is one of Worthing's easiest pleasures. It is flat, wide and good for walking, cycling, dog walks, pushchairs and people who simply want some fresh sea air.
Explore Worthing without the car
Worthing works well as a car-free day trip. You can arrive by train, walk into town, head to the pier, follow the promenade, then loop back through the shops and cafes.
There are also Donkey Bikes available in Worthing, which can be useful if you want to explore more of the seafront without walking the whole way.
Try a heritage trail
If you like a day trip with a bit of history, Worthing has self-guided heritage trails covering the town, pier, parks, seafront, Tarring, Highdown, Cissbury Ring and more. These are a good way to see more than just the main shopping streets.
Some guided walks also run locally at certain times of year, often linked to Worthing's heritage, blue plaques and historic buildings. It is worth checking local listings before you visit.
